January Market Update for Corn, Soybeans, Rice, and Cotton

This month’s 2023/24 U.S. corn outlook is for greater production, larger food, seed, and industrial use (FSI), increased feed and residual use, and higher ending stocks. Corn production is estimated at a record 15.3 billion bushels, up 108 million as an increase in yield to a record 177.3 bushels per acre is partly offset by a 0.6-million acre decline in harvested area.

Through the NCC’s Farm Policy Task Force, the industry segments came together to develop recommendations for the new bill. Louisiana Crop Production Report: November 2023

Louisiana corn for grain production is forecast at 119 million bushels, unchanged from the October 1 forecast but up 61 percent from 2022. Based on conditions as of November 1, yield is expected to average 175 bushels per acre, unchanged from last month but up 5 bushels from last year. Producers expect to harvest 680,000 acres of corn for grain, up 245,000 acres from 2022.

US Cotton Trust Protocol Acres Up 25%

The total area of planted cotton acres enrolled in the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol increased 25% compared to 2022, reaching 1.6 million acres -- the greatest increase to date, according to a recent release.

This is the fourth successive year of program expansion. Trust Protocol cotton represents 16% of all U.S. planted cotton acres.
