Soil Fertility & Nutrient Management Webinar Series

Dr. Muhammad Rassel Parvej, Assistant Professor and State Soil Fertility Specialist, Louisiana State University Agricultural Center, is starting a biweekly Soil Fertility & Nutrient Management webinar series starting next month. It’s free and welcomes anyone (including students and RA) keen on delving into theoretical and practical aspects of soil fertility and nutrient management for row crop production. We'll gather every other Thursday afternoon for 1-1.5 hours, both in person at Scott Research and Extension Center, Winnsboro as well as on TEAMS for long-distance travelers. All sessions will be recorded for participants' convenience. To accommodate your schedules, the exact time of day is flexible, with options including 3:00 to 4:30 pm, 3:30 to 5:00 pm, 4:00 to 5:30 pm, 4:30 to 6:00 pm, or other preferences you might have. The planned topics include the following, but your input is vital. Feel free to suggest topics aligned with your interests. Please share your comments, inputs, and preferences at your earliest convenience.

 

  1. Essential plant nutrients, functions, and deficiency symptoms (1 lecture)

  2. Soil texture, structure, and properties (1 lecture)

  3. Soil sampling, testing, and soil test interpretation (1-2 lectures)

  4. Soil pH, liming, and liming materials (1 lecture)

  5. Nitrogen cycle, uptake, mineralization, losses, and management (2 lectures)

  6. Phosphorus cycle, fixation, and management (1 lecture)

  7. Potassium cycle, fixation, and management (1 lecture)

  8. Other nutrients cycle and management (1 lecture)

  9. Tissue testing, interpretation, and in-season deficiency management (1 lecture)
