Louisiana Soils are Soaked

The first Louisiana Crop Progress and Condition Report for 2018 is out and it shows exactly what we were expecting... very wet conditions across all of Louisiana.

Topsoil moisture ratings show 34 percent with adequate moisture and 66 percent with surplus. Subsoil moisture levels are about the same with 42 percent adequate and 58 percent surplus.

Rice is the only crop in the state with planting progress estimates.  The report shows four percent of the rice crop is in the ground.

On the crop ratings chart, it looks like the cold winter took a toll on the sugarcane crop.  Eight percent of the cane crop is rated excellent, 25 percent good, 62 percent fair and five percent in the poor category.

Winter wheat ratings look about the same with three percent excellent, 33 percent good, 55 percent fair and nine percent poor.
