They are a holiday favorite that people love all year round. But a shortage of pecans is a growing cause for concern. Dr. Charles Graham of the LSU AgCenter has one of the coolest jobs on the planet. Among other duties, he runs the operation of the Louisiana Pecan Research Station in southern Caddo Parish.
Light shipments coming onto the market this week. Very few Improved varieties offered. Volume is expected to be light. Most of the pecans are being sold for retail off the farm or for gift pack sales. Some quality issues reported, with up to sixty percent blow out during the cleaning process.
