Crawfish Raising Tips Offered at First Producer Meeting of the Season

By Bruce Schultz, LSU AgCenter

JENNINGS — Crawfish season is just around the corner, but an LSU AgCenter crawfish expert advised that it’s too early to start flooding fields. LSU AgCenter and Sea Grant crawfish specialist Mark Shirley said straw and vegetation in the fields that have been flooded would deteriorate, depleting oxygen in the hot water. Fields that become flooded from rain should be flushed to move bad water off the fields.
