Nominations for the Louisiana Agriculture Hall of Distinction Being Accepted

BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana Agriculture Hall of Distinction is now accepting nominations for its induction ceremony, which will be held March 7, 2019, at the L’Auberge Hotel in Baton Rouge.
The nomination form can be obtained online at www.louisianaagriculturehallofdistinction.com or through any parish LSU AgCenter extension office.
The Hall of Distinction is a program of the Louisiana Radio Network, LSU AgCenter, Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry to recognize individuals who have a profound effect on Louisiana agriculture or agricultural enterprises. Nominees can represent any facet of agriculture or agriculture-related industries. including farming, ranching, aquaculture, fisheries, education or agribusiness.
“Agriculture has a long and illustrious history in Louisiana,” said Bill Richardson, LSU vice president for agriculture. “Many people have made significant contributions that helped transform agriculture-based operations into sustainable businesses. This industry continues to supply jobs that are essential to rural economies and provide the food and fiber that everyone needs. This event recognizes some of those distinguished individuals.”
The two individuals inducted in 2018 were Margie Yates Jenkins, a nursery operator from Amite, and Pierre “Pete” Lanaux, a sugarcane farmer from Edgard.
“We are pleased the Hall of Distinction has become a signature event each year as we honor those who have contributed to the state’s most significant industry,” said Louisiana Radio Network President Jim Engster. “The Louisiana agriculture industry helps feed and clothe all of us, and this is just one small way to say thank you to all our farmers and ranchers. And all of us involved with the program are more than proud and happy to do so.”
“It’s important that we take time to recognize those who advance agriculture, both in the field and in the laboratory,” said Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation President Ronnie Anderson. “Louisiana is truly blessed to have some of the most productive and innovative farmers, ranchers, researchers and consultants in the world. We’re growing better crops and raising healthier animals with fewer inputs than we did just 20 years ago. That’s why the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation is again happy to partner with the Louisiana Radio Network, LSU AgCenter and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry to sponsor the Louisiana Agriculture Hall of Distinction."
“What an honor it is to be inducted into the Hall of Distinction. They have dedicated their lives to the agricultural and forestry industries — industries that are critical to the state of Louisiana’s economy,” said Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M. “Their contributions are tremendous, and we honor their commitment.”
