Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Mike Strain and Governor John Bel Edwards continued their tour of rural Louisiana Thursday morning on a sugarcane farm in Iberville Parish.

Edwards and Strain met with some 100 south Louisiana farmers to hear their concerns and issues facing their operations as a continuation of their listening tour held last November.

Topics discussed included roads, taxes, what the Chinese tariffs will mean for Louisiana farmers and ranchers and just how much agriculture means to the economy of Louisiana.

"Agriculture is a vital part of our state's economy and hearing first-hand about the issues that matter the most to the hardworking men and woman who are responsible for its success is important in understanding how state government can better partner with them to advance this industry," Edwards said.
