NASDA Celebrates Ag Day with Road Tested Priorities for Agriculture

The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) is joining all Americans in celebrating National Agriculture today, March 21. 2017 marks the 44th anniversary of National Ag Day which is celebrated in classrooms and communities across the country.  National Agriculture Day puts a national spotlight on the true story of American agriculture and reminds citizens that every day, agriculture is an essential part of our lives.

NASDA President and Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture & Forestry Dr. Mike Strain urges Americans to understand how food is produced – and to consider how important the policies which impact food production are to urban, suburban, and rural households.

“As statewide leaders, NASDA members have a unique perspective and deep appreciation of how policies impact our farmers and ranchers,” said Strain. “For a nation to be great, it must first be great in agriculture. In 2017 we are fiercely dedicated to advocating for the importance of international trade for agriculture, appropriate implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), the next Farm Bill, and ensuring effective state and federal partnerships in federal policymaking.”

NASDA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit association which represents the elected and appointed commissioners, secretaries, and directors of the departments of agriculture in all fifty states and four U.S. territories. NASDA grows and enhances agriculture by forging partnerships and creating consensus to achieve sound policy outcomes between state departments of agriculture, the federal government, and stakeholders.
