LSU AgCenter Extension Service weed scientist Dr. Daniel Stephenson was one of the many researchers who reported to the Louisiana Soybean and Grain Research and Promotion Board on what they've been doing this past year.

"The soybean board has been great to continue to fund me and my soybean and feed grain research for a while, and I'm very thankful to all you guys who are out there listening who have the check-off dollars taken for soybean and feed grain.  Thank you very much for helping fund my research and other scientists at LSU," said Stephenson.

Soybean research is showing that regardless of the technology utilized by growers whether it's Round Up Ready, Liberty Link, Round Up X-Tend or Enlist "You need to use a residual herbicide pre behind the planter. Its' based off one year data and is actually more important than the early post residual," according to Stephenson.

"I've always advocated using something pre and come back early with post.  I"m not going to back off of that but I wanted to see what was more important...the pre or early post. And data says the pre.  Not only is weed control greater I also increased yields where I used a pre, which is the bottom line what a grower wants to hear."
