Corps Monitors Rising Mississippi

Story by Louisiana Radio Network

The Mississippi River is rising in South Louisiana again which will lead to twice a week checks of the levees. Ricky Boyett with the Army Corps of Engineers, says they are preparing for the water to rise even more.

“We’ve reached 11 feet on the Carrolton Gauge, and that’s our trigger to go into what we call phase one flood fight, and during phase one, we’ll be checking the levees at least twice a week,” Boyett said.
