LDAF Working With New Technologies

Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Mike Strain reported during his daily report on the Voice of Louisiana Agriculture Radio Network his office is starting to set up continuing education courses to deal with new technologies that are becoming available.

Specifically Strain’s office will be developing a supplemental label for Enlist Duo from Dow AgroScience, DiCamba from BASF and Monsanto’s Extend-a-Max herbicides for over the top applications to fight resistant weeds.

The Commissioner said his department will provide additional training for applicators so they can apply the new technology.

Dr. Strain also reported the Louisiana Revenue Estimating Committee met last week amid reports the upcoming budget would be between $340-500 million short of what’s needed.  Governor John Bel Edwards has said if the shortfall was $300 million or above he would call a special legislative session.  Strain says it appears that special session will be called for between Mardi Gras and Valentine’s Day.  The regular legislative session begins April 10th.
